How to Arrange a Playdate in Mandarin - Green Screen by Do Ink

Students in Xu Laoshi's mandarin class used the app Do Ink by Green Screen to record realistic videos of 'How to Arrange a Playdate'. 

K-2 WL Teachers Explore the Seesaw App

The Seesaw app was shared with K-2 WL teachers as an excellent option for students to be able to share their learning with teachers. The mandarin and spanish teachers loved how easy it was to setup a class and then share a QR code with your students so they could start creating straight away.

 

Socrative in the Chinese Classroom

Some of the K-2 WL teachers have been using Socrative with great success.  Students listen to a story as a whole group and then answer comprehension questions using Socrative.  The teacher runs the 'quiz' at the teacher's pace allowing for the class to see the correct answer after each question and giving time for discussion on why that answer was correct and the others were not correct.

Authentic Foreign Language Practice with Green Screen by DoInk

Students in Grade 1 used the app Green Screen by DoInk to recreate an authentic restaurant visit in order to practice their new unit vocabulary.  This 'app'tivity not only helped students apply their language skills, but it engaged them in a new way which made presenting their skits even better.

Green Screen Weather Reports

Grade 2 level II mandarin students have been applying their new vocabulary and speaking skills to record weather reports for other countries.  Teachers used the app Green Screen by Do Ink to accomplish this learning 'apptivity' using an iPad.

Connecting with Shekou International School

Kindergarten students in Sun Laoshi's class had a Google Hangout with 2nd grade students at Shekou International School in China.  They were very excited to be able to share a song and stories with each other.  The children are making connections and practicing their mandarin at the same time!  

Sock Puppets in World Language

Students in Yang Laoshi's class used the app Sock Puppets to arrange a playdate!

Google School: Students Teaching Teachers

High School students are helping primary school world language teachers learn through a project called Google School:  Students Teaching Teachers.  They share their knowledge about Google tools and support the teachers in using these applications in their daily teaching, planning, and learning!

Ms. Yang's 2nd grade classes have been busy making iMovies of SAS.  Check out their wonderful work!
  

Mai Laoshi's 2nd graders explored the new clip-n-clip feature on the iMovie iOS.  They have done an excellent job giving a tour of SAS in mandarin!
 

Building Connections with Skype

       Zhang Laoshi's class is building connections with students in HKIS and   
    practicing their mandarin!  They sang songs for each other via Skype today.

   In Spanish, some grade 1 students are making Storyrobes                          about the life of Pablo Picasso.
